Overview

This 6 Day Kidepo Valley and Ziwa Rhinos Safari offers an off-the-beaten-path adventure to Northern and Northeastern Uganda, beginning with a journey to Gulu town in Northern Uganda to break up the long drive to Kidepo Valley National Park. From Gulu, you’ll head to Kidepo Valley National Park, where you’ll spend three nights exploring the park, which spans the Narus and Kidepo Valleys. On your return, you’ll stop at Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a night to track White Rhinos before concluding the safari.

Tour Plan


Day 1

Transfer from Entebbe to Gulu

After breakfast, depart for Gulu town in Northern Uganda. Along the way, you may visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track white rhinos or save it for your return trip. You’ll cross the Nile River, passing the Kaluma Falls before arriving in Gulu for the night. This stop helps break up the long drive to Kidepo Valley National Park.

Day 2

From Gulu to Kidepo Valley National Park

After an early breakfast, continue your journey to Kidepo Valley National Park. Enjoy the scenic views of the hills separating Acholi Land and Karamoja, spot the Manyatas, and cross seasonal rivers before arriving at Kidepo for lunch. After some relaxation, embark on an evening game drive in Narus Valley.

Day 3

Game Drives in Narus Valley

Start your day with a warm cup of tea or coffee before heading to Narus Valley for a morning game drive. Narus Valley is known for its wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, and numerous bird species. As the only permanent water source, Narus Valley attracts large herds of buffalo and offers high chances of spotting big cats and possibly cheetahs. After lunch and some relaxation, return to Narus Valley for an evening game drive.

Day 4

Game Drive in Narus Valley and Hot Springs Visit in Kidepo Valley

After breakfast, enjoy another game drive in Narus Valley, looking for any wildlife you might have missed earlier. Kidepo Valley National Park offers exceptional game viewing opportunities. After lunch, drive to Kidepo Valley to visit the hot springs and the Uganda-Sudan border. If you’re lucky, you might spot the giant ostriches that have been heavily poached in the area. Be prepared for potential delays during the rainy season due to seasonal rivers.

Day 5

Kidepo Valley to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, depart Kidepo Valley National Park for Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. If you didn’t visit Ziwa on the way to Kidepo, you’ll have the chance to track rhinos now. Spend the night at Amuka Safari Lodge.

Day 6

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to Kampala/Entebbe International Airport

After breakfast, head out to track the white rhinos in the sanctuary. These rhinos are being reintroduced to Uganda after being poached to extinction, and by tracking them, you contribute to their conservation. Afterward, drive back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.

Can I reschedule or cancel this trip?

  • Rescheduling: You can reschedule this trip as a private tour to any date within 12 months at no additional cost.
  • Booking Deposit: A 30% deposit of the total tour price is required to secure your booking. The remaining balance is due 45 days before the tour departure date. Bookings not secured with the appropriate deposit will be released.
  • Cancellation Policy:
    • Cancel between 90 and 45 days before departure: 20% penalty of the tour price.
    • Cancel within 45 days of departure or no show: 100% penalty of the tour price.

Availability and Accommodations

  • Reservations: Accommodation and activity availability is not guaranteed until reservations are confirmed with the final itinerary and deposit payment. If any quoted accommodations are unavailable, we reserve the right to substitute them with suitable alternatives, which may affect the final quoted price.

Insurance

  • Requirement: All clients must have medical and travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances.

Rates

  • Subject to Change: Tour rates are subject to change without notice. We will make every effort to maintain rates, but changes in government taxes or operating conditions may be passed on to clients.

Permit Cancellation Policy

Uganda Gorilla Permit Cancellation Policy

  • Guarantee: A Gorilla Permit is guaranteed only upon receipt of the deposit ($800 per person per trek) as it must be paid immediately to the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Cancellation Fees

  • More than 90 days before tracking: 25% cancellation fee.
  • 89 to 46 days before tracking: 50% cancellation fee.
  • 45 to 9 days before tracking: 75% cancellation fee.
  • 8 to 0 days before tracking: 100% cancellation fee.

Important Information

  • Age Requirement: The minimum age for gorilla tracking is 15 years.
  • Health: Visitors with flu or other airborne diseases will not be allowed into the rainforest jungle to see the gorillas.
  • Safety Protocols: Masks must be worn at all times, and a distance of 10 meters must be maintained between you and the gorillas.
