Spring holidays in the northern hemisphere coincide with the rainy season in Uganda and Rwanda, but don’t worry – it’s still a great time for gorilla trekking. The best time to book your Spring holiday gorilla trek is now!

We recommend booking your gorilla permits at least a year in advance, as they can sell out quickly, especially during peak seasons. If you’re thinking about visiting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park between March and May, don’t wait—reach out today, and we’ll help you secure your permits and plan your trip.

Once you provide your preferred dates, we’ll check the availability of permits for your selected dates. If they’re available, we’ll send you the details, and you can make a payment to confirm your booking. Payments can be made via bank transfer, wire transfer, or debit/credit card (with a small surcharge for card payments).

To confirm your safari, we’ll require full payment for your gorilla permits. The balance for your tour package is due 3 weeks before the start of your trip. This payment plan ensures that your permits are secured and that your gorilla trek is all set for an amazing Spring holiday adventure!

Gorilla Permit Details

Your gorilla permit is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and is required to trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park to see the endangered mountain gorillas. The permit allows you to spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family. During this time, you can take photos and videos (within the guidelines), learn from your guide, and witness these incredible creatures in their natural habitat.

The gorilla permit also includes the services of a ranger guide and tourism police for your safety. Your guide will carry a firearm to ensure protection from any wildlife threats, and park entry fees are also covered by the permit.

Please note, gorilla permits are only valid for the date they are booked and cannot be transferred or used for a different date, so it’s important to be available on your scheduled trekking day.

Gorilla Habituation Permit: What’s Included and What’s Not

If you’re looking to spend more time with the majestic mountain gorillas, the Gorilla Habituation Experience is the perfect choice for you. Unlike the standard gorilla trekking permit, which allows you to spend one hour with the gorillas, the Gorilla Habituation Experience gives you the chance to stay with the gorillas for up to four hours. This experience is available in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where two gorilla families in the southern part of the park are currently reserved for this unique experience. There’s even word that a third family is being habituated in the northern region of Bwindi, serving the areas of Buhoma and Ruhija.

When you book a Gorilla Habituation Experience, you not only enjoy more time with the gorillas but also contribute directly to conservation efforts. Part of the permit fee supports the protection and care of the rare mountain gorillas, as well as the staff at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Additionally, your visit helps support the local communities, with a portion of the fees being used for vital projects such as building schools, hospitals, and creating local jobs.
