This policy applies in the event that you can no longer make it for your trek, especially when it comes to last-minute changes or cancellations.

Here’s an overview of the UWA Gorilla Permit cancellation policy in Uganda:

• 0-8 days before the tracking date: No refund.
• 9-45 days before the tracking date: 75% cancellation fee (25% refund).
• 46-90 days before the tracking date: 50% cancellation fee (50% refund).
• 91 days or more before the tracking date: 30% cancellation fee (70% refund).

These fees apply to the full value of your gorilla permit. For gorilla trekking, the permit costs $800, and for the Gorilla Habituation Experience, it costs $1500. Please note that these terms may change at any time without notice.

Gorilla Trekking in Uganda: Best Time to Visit

Gorilla trekking is possible year-round, but the best time to visit is during Uganda’s drier months—January, February, and from June to early September. The weather is more favorable for travel, and the visibility is better as the vegetation is less dense, making it easier to spot gorillas.

What’s Included with Your Gorilla Permit?

When you book a gorilla permit, it allows you to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park to see the endangered mountain gorillas. The permit includes:

• One hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family.
• The services of a ranger guide and tourism police to ensure safety.
• Park entry fees for the designated park (valid for 24 hours).
• The opportunity to take still photos and simple videos.
• Security provided by Uganda Wildlife Authority staff.

Note: Gorilla permits are only valid for the date you’ve booked. If you are unable to attend the trek, your permit cannot be used on another day.

Gorilla Habituation Experience

For those seeking a more immersive experience, consider the Gorilla Habituation Experience, which allows you to spend up to four hours with mountain gorillas under habituation in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Currently, two gorilla families in the southern part of the park are available for this experience. There are also plans to expand the habituation program to the northern parts of Bwindi.
