This 3-day Ol Doinyo Lengai mountain climbing adventure takes you to Tanzania’s only active volcano, also known as the “Mountain of God” by the Maasai people. The trek offers an unforgettable experience, combining breathtaking landscapes, a challenging hike, and the chance to explore Lake Natron’s stunning scenery, including waterfalls and vast flamingo breeding grounds.

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel or Arusha Airport. From there, you’ll embark on a scenic 4-5 hour drive to Ol Doinyo Lengai, passing through the Great Rift Valley and Mto wa Mbu village. Along the way, you may spot wildlife and encounter the Maasai people, known for their rich cultural heritage.

Upon arrival in the Lake Natron area, you will check in at your lodge and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you can take a refreshing shower before heading out for an evening walk to the waterfalls and nearby Maasai villages.

Day 2: Ol Doinyo Lengai Summit Hike

At midnight, after a warm cup of tea and some snacks, you will be transferred to the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai to start your climb. Rising to 2,962 meters, this challenging trek takes approximately 6-7 hours to reach the summit.

Ol Doinyo Lengai is unique as the only volcano in the world that produces natrocarbonatite lava. The trek is steep and strenuous, but reaching the peak rewards you with breathtaking sunrise views over Lake Natron, the Great Rift Valley, and the Ngorongoro Highlands.

After spending some time at the summit, you will descend for about 3-4 hours back to the base, where our driver will pick you up and take you to the lodge for a well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Lake Natron Tour and Return to Arusha

In the morning, after breakfast, you will take a guided walk to Lake Natron, a unique salt lake known for being one of the world’s most important breeding sites for flamingos. The lake’s striking landscapes create an otherworldly experience.

After the tour, you will return to the lodge for lunch before driving back to Arusha, a journey of approximately 4-5 hours. Upon arrival, we will drop you off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your adventure.
