Stretching 120 km long and 65 km wide, the Rwenzori Mountains soar to an altitude of 5,109 meters above sea level, making it Uganda’s highest peak and the third-highest in Africa. Referred to as the “Mountains of the Moon” by early geographers, the snow-capped peaks are the source of the mighty Nile River. Nestled within the Rwenzori Mountains National Park, this awe-inspiring range offers a mystical challenge for adventure seekers.

Located on the border of Uganda and the Congo, Rwenzori Mountains National Park is a biodiversity hotspot, home to 70 mammal species and 217 bird species, including 19 endemic species of the Albertine Rift. Along with the hike, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the rich local culture through village walks, bird watching, and nature walks, where you can immerse yourself in the daily life of the Bakonzo people.

Itinerary: 2-Day Rwenzori Mountain Climbing

Day 1: Start the Adventure – Basecamp to Sine Camp (2,596m)

• Start: Briefing at the basecamp (1,450m)
• Trek: Begin your journey with a steady 6-kilometer climb through Afro-montane forests, showcasing tall trees, vibrant plant species, and exotic birdlife. You might also spot Columbus monkeys along the way.
• Destination: Sine Camp (2,596m) – After crossing the Enock Falls, you’ll reach Sine Camp after a 5-6 hour hike covering 9.5 km.
• Highlights: The scenic Enock Falls, a variety of flora and fauna, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 2: Descent to Basecamp – Sine Camp to Basecamp

• Start: After breakfast, embark on a steady descent towards the basecamp, passing through the picturesque forest trail.
• Trek: Cross the Enock Falls again and continue the descent, keeping an eye out for more monkeys and listening to the sounds of the forest.
• End: Return to basecamp after another 5-6 hours of hiking, covering the same distance of 9.5 km.

• For 1-2 People: $340 per person (hiking fees) + $35 per night (national park entrance fee, paid separately at the gate)

Accommodations are in simple huts with bunk beds. While we cannot provide private rooms, the huts are designed to be comfortable and eco-friendly, minimizing the environmental impact. Higher camps, such as Hunwick’s and Kiharo, offer solar power and even a 240V inverter for charging devices.

Insurance Requirements:

Insurance is mandatory for all trekkers, including Medivac and evacuation coverage for altitudes above 4,000 meters. Please ensure that your insurance is arranged before your arrival.
