Embark on an unforgettable 5-Day Weismann’s Peak Trek: Rwenzori Mountains, the third highest mountain range in Africa. Located in Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains National Park, this trek offers an exhilarating challenge, taking you to an altitude of 4,620 meters, while passing through lush forests, waterfalls, and unique plant life. Known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” the Rwenzori range is famous for its breathtaking views and diverse ecosystems.
The trek will also allow you to experience the natural beauty of the area, including the stunning flora and fauna, along with cultural encounters such as visiting local villages. Itinerary: 5-Day Weismann’s Peak Trek
Day 1: Arrival and Start of the Trek
Meet your guides for a briefing, then set off on your trek to Sine Camp, located at 2,596 meters. Your journey will take you through the Afro-montane forest zone, offering plenty of opportunities to spot various plant species, birds, and monkeys. Expect a steady 9.5 km climb (approx. 5 to 6 hours). Enjoy your evening with a visit to the nearby Enock Falls.
Day 2: Trek to Mutinda Camp (3,588 meters)
On day 2, your trek will take you through the bamboo and Heather-Rapanea zones, with a mix of scenic views, streams, and waterfalls. You’ll encounter Giant Heather trees, moss-covered waterfalls, and vibrant plant life. After a long 6.1 km hike (approx. 6 to 8 hours), you’ll reach Mutinda Camp. Optional: Hike to Mutinda Lookout at 3,975 meters for panoramic views.
Day 3: Trek to Bugata Camp (4,062 meters)
Your third day takes you through valleys filled with fascinating plants, streams, and waterfalls as you continue up to Bugata Camp. The terrain becomes steeper, muddy, and more challenging, but the rewards are worth it. Expect a long, strenuous 8-hour trek, covering approximately 6.5 km.
Day 4: Summit Weismann’s Peak and Descend to Kiharo Camp
Rise early for your summit attempt at Weismann’s Peak (4,620 meters). After taking in the stunning views, descend via a different route, heading down the Nyamwamba Valley. This section will take you to Kiharo Camp (3,430 meters), where you’ll rest for the night. The hike involves approximately 9 km (8 to 10 hours total).
Day 5: Descend to Kilembe Basecamp
Your final day will involve a 14.6 km descent (7 to 9 hours) through moss-covered rocks, forests, and rivers back to the basecamp in Kilembe. Once back, debrief and head to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
