Tour Plan

Day 1

Pick up from the Hotel and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to southwestern Uganda, heading towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. As you journey through the rolling hills, tea and banana plantations, you'll be treated to breathtaking views. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, where you can unwind and enjoy dinner before settling in for the night.

Day 2

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Start your day with an early breakfast before transferring to the park headquarters with your packed lunch. Join fellow trekkers for registration and a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Enjoy a cultural performance by the local community before setting off on your trek, accompanied by armed rangers. Depending on the movements of the gorillas, your trek may last from half an hour to several hours. Once you encounter the gorillas, you'll have the unique opportunity to spend one hour observing and photographing them. After the trek, return to the headquarters to receive your trekking certificate, and then head back to the lodge to relax and spend the night.

Day 3

Second Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, head back to the park headquarters for your second gorilla trekking experience. This time, you’ll have the chance to choose a different gorilla family to track, offering a new and distinct experience. After your trek, return to the lodge to relax and enjoy your evening.

Day 4

Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters to join researchers and guides for a unique gorilla habituation experience. After registration and a briefing, you’ll set out with an armed ranger to locate a gorilla family. Once found, you’ll spend up to four hours observing the gorillas as they go about their daily activities and learn how they are gradually acclimated to human presence. After this immersive experience, return to the headquarters to receive your certificate before heading back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Transfer Back to Kampala/Entebbe for Overnight

After an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe for an overnight stay. Enjoy an en route lunch, and if time permits, you may opt for a city tour before arriving at your accommodation.

International Flight to Zanzibar

Dolphin Excursion

After breakfast, embark on a dolphin excursion in the southern part of Zanzibar, specifically in the charming Kizimkazi fishing village. Are gorilla trekking permits included in the safari price?

Most of our gorilla trekking safaris include the cost of the gorilla permit. The permit is one of the most important parts of your trip and will be clearly listed in your quotation. If a permit is not included, we will explain this before you make your booking.

How far in advance should I book gorilla trekking permits?

We recommend booking gorilla permits at least 3 to 6 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel during the peak seasons from June to September or December to February. Permits are limited and can sell out quickly, particularly in popular trekking sectors.

What is the best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda?

Gorilla trekking is available throughout the year in Uganda. Many travelers prefer the dry seasons from June to September and December to February because the trails are generally easier to navigate. However, the rainy seasons can also be rewarding, with fewer visitors and lush green scenery in the forest.

How difficult is gorilla trekking?

The difficulty of gorilla trekking varies depending on the location of the gorilla family being visited. Some treks may take less than an hour while others can last several hours through steep and forested terrain. A moderate level of fitness is recommended, but people of different ages and fitness levels successfully complete gorilla treks every day.

What should I pack for gorilla trekking?

For gorilla trekking, we recommend bringing sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, a lightweight rain jacket, gardening gloves, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, drinking water and a camera.
