Best Time for Chimpanzee Trekking in Mahale National Park, Tanzania

The best time to visit Mahale National Park for chimpanzee trekking depends on what you’re hoping to experience. If you want to enjoy lush green landscapes and a vibrant atmosphere, the rainy season (November to mid-May) is the best time for trekking. This period offers the best chance for spotting chimpanzees against a backdrop of blooming vegetation. On the other hand, if you’re aiming for the perfect photo opportunities, clearer skies and easier trekking, the dry season from May to October is your best bet, with shorter hikes and ideal conditions for capturing stunning images.

Understanding the Best Time to See Chimpanzees in Tanzania

Chimpanzee trekking in Tanzania is an exciting year-round activity but the best times to spot chimpanzees are December to February and June to October. These months are drier and offer optimal trekking conditions, compared to the wetter periods of March to May and November, when the trails can be more challenging.
