Boat Safari on Lake Eyasi

Boat Safari on Lake Eyasi: A Unique Adventure in Tanzania

Embark on an extraordinary boat safari on Lake Eyasi, a seasonal shallow saltwater lake nestled in the Great Rift Valley. Located at the base of the Serengeti Plateau, just south of Serengeti National Park and southwest of the Ngorongoro Crater, this hidden gem offers a perfect blend of stunning landscapes, wildlife encounters and cultural experiences.

Top Reasons to Choose a Lake Eyasi Boat Safari

A boat safari on Lake Eyasi offers a tranquil yet thrilling experience, allowing you to explore its serene waters while immersing yourself in the vibrant ecosystem and culture of the area.

1. Wildlife Encounters

Lake Eyasi is home to a variety of wildlife, including big game animals that wander from the neighboring Serengeti National Park. The lake’s shores attract species like flamingos, great white pelicans, yellow-billed storks and the striking African spoonbill, making it a paradise for bird lovers.

2. Meet the Hadzabe Bushmen

One of the highlights of a visit to Lake Eyasi is meeting the Hadzabe people, an indigenous hunter-gatherer community. Interacting with them offers a unique glimpse into their traditional way of life, which has remained largely unchanged for centuries. You can learn about their hunting techniques, gather insights into their culture and witness their connection to nature.

Best Time to Visit Lake Eyasi

A boat safari on Lake Eyasi is available year-round but the best times to visit are:

• December to February
• June to October

During these months, the weather is relatively dry, providing ideal conditions for wildlife viewing and birdwatching. The wet seasons (March to May and November) are also good for bird enthusiasts, as migratory birds flock to the lake.

To visit Lake Eyasi or other Tanzanian destinations, you’ll need a tourist visa. While many travelers prefer to obtain their visas before arrival, you can easily get one upon landing at any entry point in Tanzania for $100 USD.
