Booking Last-Minute Gorilla Tours and Permits: Everything You Need to Know

Planning a gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, Rwanda or DR Congo but worried about securing permits at the last minute? Here’s a complete guide to help you navigate the process, book your permits and embark on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Where Can You Go Gorilla Trekking in Africa?

Mountain gorilla trekking is offered in three countries:

• Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
• Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park.
• DR Congo: Virunga National Park (mountain gorillas) and Kahuzi-Biega National Park (lowland gorillas).

To trek in any of these parks, you must purchase a gorilla permit, which should be booked well in advance to secure availability.

How to Book Last-Minute Gorilla Tours and Permits in Uganda

To book a last-minute gorilla trekking permit in Uganda, follow these steps:

1. Confirm your travel dates: Once your plans are finalized, send an email to check the availability of gorilla permits with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or through a trusted tour operator like Trek Africa Gorillas.
2. Verify availability: If permits are available, you’ll receive an invoice for payment.
3. Make the payment: Once your payment is processed, the operator will purchase your permit and send you a scanned copy for confirmation.

Pro Tip: Book your permits at least 2-3 months in advance, especially during the peak season (June to September), as they sell out quickly.
