Budget Gorilla Safaris in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: How to Plan Your Affordable Adventure

Planning a budget-friendly gorilla safari in Uganda? Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers an unforgettable opportunity to trek the mountain gorillas and it’s one of the best places for budget gorilla safaris. Located in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it a top destination for wildlife lovers. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is primarily done in Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, both of which are part of a small number of parks globally that are home to the endangered mountain gorillas.

Why Visit Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for Gorilla Trekking?

Bwindi is one of Africa’s oldest forests, rich in biodiversity. Beyond mountain gorillas, the park is home to a variety of species, including 350 bird species, 310 butterflies, 200 trees and several primates, including chimpanzees and L’Hoest’s monkey. The park features over 15 habituated gorilla families, with eight permits allocated for each group daily.

Bwindi Budget Gorilla Trekking Options: Which Sector is Right for You?

Budget gorilla safaris in Bwindi are available in four sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. Each sector has its own set of habituated mountain gorilla families. Buhoma and Ruhija are in the northern part of the park, near Queen Elizabeth National Park, which makes it convenient to combine gorilla trekking with game viewing. Rushaga and Nkuringo are located in the south, closer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, ideal for those seeking both gorilla and golden monkey trekking.

Gorilla Trekking Permit Costs and What’s Included

The cost of a gorilla permit for foreign non-residents is USD 800 per person, while East African residents pay USD 700 and East African citizens pay USD 80. This permit gives you one hour with the mountain gorillas after trekking to find them. For a 3-day gorilla safari starting from Rwanda, the total cost is USD 1,290 per person, including all travel expenses.

How to Book a Budget Gorilla Safari in Bwindi

To secure your gorilla trekking experience, you’ll need to purchase a permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Trek Africa Gorillas makes the process easier by reserving your permits in advance. Once you confirm your travel dates, we will check for availability, send you an invoice and purchase your permits once payment is received. We’ll provide you with scanned copies of your permits for your records.
