Complete Guide to Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is one of only four places in the world where you can see the critically endangered mountain gorillas. The other parks include Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in DR Congo. Bwindi is also one of Africa’s oldest forests, boasting incredible biodiversity with over 350 bird species, 310 butterfly species, 200 tree species, 51 reptiles, 88 moths and 120 mammals. The park is home to several primates, including chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s monkeys and, most notably, the mountain gorillas.

Bwindi hosts nearly half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, with about 1,064 individuals globally. It features more than 18 habituated gorilla families open for trekking, with each family allowing only eight visitors per day.
