The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience is often described as a life-changing adventure by those who’ve participated. For many travelers visiting Kibale National Park, it’s one of the highlights of their trip to Uganda, offering a rare chance to engage with these endangered primates in the wild.

The cost of a Chimpanzee Habituation Experience permit is $300 for foreign non-residents, $250 for residents and 250,000 Ugandan Shillings for East African citizens. Your payment not only grants you an incredible experience but also plays a vital role in the conservation of Kibale National Park and its wildlife. The fees you pay support efforts to preserve the park’s ecosystems and protect the chimpanzees from encroachment by local communities. Additionally, the revenue generated from chimpanzee trekking helps fund environmental conservation projects, which benefit both the park and the surrounding communities.

The local communities also receive 20% of the revenue from permits and entrance fees. Best Time to Plan Your Chimpanzee Trekking Adventure in Kibale National Park

The ideal time for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park is during Uganda’s dry seasons: from June to October and December to March. During these months, the weather is mild with minimal rainfall, making the forest trails more accessible and enjoyable. The vegetation is also not as dense, allowing for better views and fantastic photo opportunities of the chimpanzees.

In contrast, the wet months of April, May and November bring higher rainfall, causing the vegetation to grow thicker, which can make sightings more challenging. However, during this time, the treks tend to be shorter, as the chimpanzees do not roam as far in search of food — it’s more abundant in the forest.

Despite seasonal variations, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale is a well-organized activity, with a 99% chance of spotting these incredible creatures year-round.
