Along the way, you may also see other wildlife, including monkeys, forest elephants, reptiles and a variety of butterflies.

Chimpanzee Trekking Permit Costs and Booking

The cost of chimpanzee trekking in Kibale depends on several factors, including the type of safari and your choice of accommodation. A chimpanzee trekking permit costs $250 for foreign non-residents, $200 for residents and 180,000 UGX for East African citizens per person, per trek. Once you’ve confirmed your travel dates, simply email us to check availability with the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Once permits are available, we will send you an invoice and upon payment, we’ll immediately purchase your permits and send you scanned copies for your records. It’s recommended to book at least 2-3 months in advance, as permits sell out quickly.

Why is Your Money Well Spent on Chimpanzee Trekking?

The cost of your chimpanzee trekking permit helps fund the protection of Kibale National Park and its wildlife. Without this income, encroachment from nearby communities could threaten the forest. Your permit fees also benefit the local communities, as 20% of the revenue is distributed to them. This funding helps support local projects like schools, healthcare and sustainable agriculture, further encouraging conservation efforts in the area.

Best Time for Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park

The best time for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale is during the dry seasons from June to October and December to March. These months are ideal because the forest is less muddy and the vegetation is not as dense, making it easier to spot the chimps. While trekking can still be done in the wet season (April, May and November), visibility can be more challenging due to the dense vegetation, although the treks tend to be shorter as the chimpanzees stay in smaller areas where food is plentiful.
