Discover Buhoma Sector: The Heart of Bwindi Gorilla Trekking

Buhoma is located in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and was the first sector to be habituated in 1993, just after the park became a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s the most famous and most visited sector of the park, home to the Mubare Gorilla family, as well as the Habinyanja, Rushegura and Katwe families.

Buhoma is a popular choice for visitors because it’s where gorilla trekking in Bwindi began. Many travelers feel confident trekking here as it’s home to four habituated gorilla families, second only to Rushaga sector, making it easier to secure permits. The sector is also known for its luxury accommodations, which attract high-end travelers looking for comfort and exclusivity. These factors make Buhoma a top choice for gorilla trekkers, leading to higher demand for permits and services.
