Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi: A Life-Changing Experience

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi begins early, with a briefing at the park headquarters, where you’ll learn about the dos and don’ts for safely trekking in the forest and interacting with the gorillas. The trek starts at 7:00 AM and you’ll be guided by park rangers and trackers who know the terrain and gorilla families well.

Once the gorillas are located, you’ll be allowed to observe them for up to one hour. This close-up experience is nothing short of magical, as gorillas share 95% of human DNA. It’s a rare and moving opportunity to witness these incredible creatures in their natural habitat. After your encounter, you’ll return to the starting point, where you’ll receive a certificate commemorating your successful gorilla trek.

To maintain the safety and well-being of the gorillas, only 8 visitors are allowed to visit each habituated family per day. Additionally, trekkers must be 15 years or older, as young children can be more difficult to control in the forest and pose a risk of transmitting diseases to the gorillas. Rest assured, Bwindi National Park has strict policies and guidelines in place to ensure both your safety and the conservation of the gorillas.
