Why July is a Great Time for Gorilla Trekking

July marks the peak of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and it’s a perfect time for a family holiday. While many opt for beach vacations, why not make your summer truly special by embarking on an extraordinary gorilla trekking experience in Africa? With extended daylight hours and warm weather, July is ideal for exploring the lush rainforests and encountering the rare mountain gorillas. Whether you’re traveling from the UK, USA, Europe or Asia, Trek Africa Gorillas offers affordable and high-quality trekking packages to make your African adventure unforgettable.

Where to Go for Gorilla Trekking in July

Gorilla trekking takes place in four national parks across Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. These parks are home to the last remaining mountain gorillas. The national parks include:

• Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
• Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park
• Congo: Virunga National Park (Mountain Gorillas) and Kahuzi Biega National Park (Lowland Gorillas)

Each of these locations offers a unique gorilla trekking experience. For example, you can trek in Uganda’s lush Bwindi Forest or Rwanda’s Volcanoes Park, home to several gorilla families. In Congo, you can also opt to see the rare Lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Beiga National Park.

Book Your Gorilla Permit in Advance

To trek gorillas in any of these parks, a gorilla permit is required. Gorilla permits for July tend to sell out quickly, especially in the peak season (June to September), so we recommend booking your permit at least 5 months in advance. This will ensure you don’t miss out on the adventure of a lifetime.

Best Time to Book Your Gorilla Trekking in July

Planning a gorilla trekking adventure in July? The best time to book your trek is at least three months before your planned trip, though we recommend securing your permits well in advance—ideally a year before. Early booking ensures you don’t miss out on crucial elements like gorilla permits.

If you’re reading this and already thinking about your July trip, contact us with your preferred dates and we’ll check the availability of all services, including permits.

How Booking Works

Once we confirm the availability of permits for your chosen dates in July, we’ll promptly inform you via email. If the permits are available, we’ll guide you through the payment process, which can be made via bank transfer or credit card (note that card payments attract a small surcharge). Payment for gorilla permits must be made in full to secure your spot.

To make sure everything goes smoothly, the balance for your trip should be paid three weeks before departure. This way, you’ll know your gorilla permit is secured, giving you peace of mind for the rest of your arrangements.

Why Book Early?

Trek Africa Gorillas is one of the few licensed tour operators in Uganda with direct access to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) gorilla permit database. We can instantly check permit availability and even hold them for you—something very few tour operators can do. This gives you a reliable advantage when securing permits for the busy peak months of July, August and September.

Once your payment is processed, we’ll send someone to UWA’s office in Kampala to finalize your booking, obtain a receipt and provide you with all necessary documentation. We’ll safely store your permit until you start your adventure, ensuring everything is ready for your gorilla trekking experience.
