Our expert team can help you plan and book your trekking adventure in Uganda, Rwanda or the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Whether you choose Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda or Virunga National Park in Congo, we’ll ensure your trip is perfectly tailored to your preferences. Additionally, your June safari can include visits to nearby savannah parks for wildlife viewing, boat cruises and cultural encounters.

Why June is the Perfect Time for Gorilla Trekking

June marks the beginning of summer in many countries, especially in the northern hemisphere. During this time, schools and universities break for the summer, making it an ideal season for families and students to plan a memorable adventure. While many people flock to the beaches for their summer holidays, why not spend your summer trekking with mountain gorillas in the heart of Africa? Whether you’re from the UK, the USA, Europe or Asia, Trek Africa Gorillas offers affordable, high-quality gorilla trekking packages that allow you to explore the rare mountain gorillas of Africa.

Best Locations for Gorilla Trekking in Africa

Gorilla trekking is a truly unique experience that can only be done in a few places in Africa. Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are home to the last remaining mountain gorillas. The four national parks where you can find these incredible creatures are:

• Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
• Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park
• Congo: Virunga National Park (for mountain gorillas) and Kahuzi Beiga National Park (for lowland gorillas)

To trek gorillas in any of these national parks, you’ll need to secure a gorilla permit. Given that permits can sell out quickly, especially during high season (June to September), it’s recommended to book your trip at least 5 months in advance. Gorilla trekking can be booked directly through the relevant park authorities or through a trusted local tour operator like Trek Africa Gorillas.

Gorilla Permit Costs and Availability

• Uganda:
  • $800 per person for foreign non-residents
  • $700 per person for residents

If you want to spend more time with the gorillas, consider the Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi, which costs $1500 per person and allows you to spend 4 hours with the gorillas instead of just one hour.

• Rwanda:

When planning your gorilla trekking adventure in June, we recommend reserving your trip at least three months in advance. For a seamless experience, it’s ideal to start planning a year ahead, ensuring you don’t miss out on key elements like gorilla permits. If you’re reading this now and already know when you’d like to trek, simply send us your preferred dates and we’ll check the availability of permits and other services.

Once we confirm the number of available permits for your chosen dates, we’ll notify you immediately by email. If everything aligns, we’ll guide you through the payment process. You can make your payment to our secure Dollar account via bank transfer, wire transfer or debit/credit card (please note that card payments carry a small surcharge, which we will clearly communicate).

To secure your gorilla permits for June, we’ll need full payment for the permits upfront. The balance for your tour can be settled up to three weeks before your safari begins, giving you ample time to manage your finances while ensuring your permits are already secured.

As one of the few trusted Uganda tour operators with direct access to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) gorilla permit database, Trek Africa Gorillas can check permit availability in real-time. We have the unique privilege of holding and advising you on availability anytime, day or night.

Once your payment is received, we’ll send a representative to UWA’s Kampala office to complete the booking. We’ll email you a scanned receipt and booking ID for your records. When your gorilla permits are printed, we will collect them and keep them safe until your trek begins. On the day of your trek, your guide will present the permit on your behalf.

Gorilla Permits: What’s Included and What’s Not

Your gorilla permit is issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority and grants you access to Bwindi Impenetrable or Mgahinga National Parks to spend an unforgettable hour with a mountain gorilla family. This permit includes the entry fee to the park, a ranger guide and tourism police for safety. You’ll also receive an informative talk about the gorillas and the opportunity to take photos and videos during your encounter. However, please be aware that the permit doesn’t cover accommodation, meals or transport, so these will be part of your overall tour package.

If you’d like a more immersive experience, consider the Gorilla Habituation Experience, which allows you to spend up to four hours with the gorillas. This experience is unique to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and offers a deeper connection with the gorillas.
