Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga

Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga

Are you planning a gorilla trekking adventure in Rushaga? With Trek Africa Gorillas, this is not only possible but also a seamless and memorable experience. The low season months of April, May and November are ideal for those seeking a more private safari. During this time, Uganda receives fewer tourists, allowing for quieter experiences at attractions and national parks. If you’re visiting during the low season, we can help you find the best budget lodges for your stay in the Rushaga sector, ensuring a comfortable and affordable safari.

About the Rushaga Sector in Bwindi

Rushaga is located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and is home to five habituated gorilla families: Busingye, Bweza, Nshongi, Mishaya and Kahungye. This makes it the sector with the highest number of gorilla families and the terrain here is known to be relatively easy to trek.

Rushaga is also the only sector in Bwindi that offers the unique Gorilla Habituation Experience, allowing tourists to spend up to four hours with gorilla families currently being habituated, such as Bushaho and Bikyingi.

This sector is conveniently accessible through Kisoro and is a popular option for travelers coming from Kigali, Rwanda, as it serves as a straightforward trekking point. Additionally, Rushaga offers cultural experiences like the Batwa Community Visit, perfect for visitors interested in learning about local traditions.

Best Time for Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga

Rushaga, located in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, is open for gorilla trekking all year round. However, certain months are more favorable for trekking due to weather conditions:

• Best Months:
  • June to August and December to February: These months experience less rainfall, making the forest less slippery and trekking more comfortable.
• Rainy Season:
  • March to May and November: These months experience heavier rainfall but many lodges offer discounts during this time, making it a great option for budget travelers.

Regardless of when you visit, remember that Bwindi is a tropical rainforest, so rain is always a possibility. Proper preparation is key to enjoying your trekking experience.
