Best Time to Book Your Spring Holiday Gorilla Trekking Tour

Booking your spring holiday gorilla trekking tour in advance is the best way to secure your spot and make the most of your trip to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. The spring break in the northern hemisphere often coincides with the rainy season in these regions, making it crucial to plan ahead to ensure availability, especially for gorilla permits.

The best time to book your spring holiday gorilla trek is now. We recommend securing your gorilla permits at least 12 months in advance to avoid disappointment. If you’re reading this and have dates in mind for March to May, contact us now with your preferred travel dates and we’ll check the availability of permits for your chosen Bwindi or Mgahinga trek.

Securing Your Gorilla Permits

Once we confirm the availability of your gorilla permits, we’ll notify you right away. After that, we’ll guide you through the payment process. At Trek Africa Gorillas, we make the process easy and transparent, accepting payments via bank transfers, wire transfers or credit/debit cards (with a small surcharge for card payments).

To confirm your booking, we’ll ask for full payment for the gorilla permits upfront, ensuring that your permits are secured. The remaining balance for your spring holiday safari is due 3 weeks before the start of your trip. This way, you can rest assured that your gorilla permits—the foundation of your safari—are fully confirmed and the rest of the trip will be smooth sailing.

Why Book with Trek Africa Gorillas?

As a registered and trusted tour operator in Uganda, Trek Africa Gorillas has direct access to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) gorilla permit database. This gives us the ability to check availability, hold permits and update you on any changes instantly. Very few tour operators have access to the UWA portal, so we’re able to offer a level of service that’s fast, reliable and personalized.

Once your payment is received, we’ll visit the UWA office in Kampala, where we’ll complete the payment, secure your booking ID and obtain your receipt. We’ll then send you a scanned copy for your records. When the gorilla permits are printed, we’ll collect them and keep them safely at our office until the day of your trek. Your guide will bring the permit along and present it to the park authorities on your behalf when you begin your spring holiday gorilla trek.

What’s Included in Your Spring Holiday Gorilla Trekking Safari?

All of our spring holiday gorilla trekking packages are all-inclusive, meaning we take care of everything from your gorilla permits to accommodation, transportation and more. Here’s what you can expect:

• Gorilla permits: The essential entry pass for your trek, which includes one hour with a habituated gorilla family, a guided tour and park entry fees.
• Accommodation: Comfortable lodgings near Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park.
• Transportation: Transfers from Entebbe or Kigali to the national parks and back.

We handle all the logistics so you can focus on enjoying your adventure. You’ll travel stress-free, knowing that all the details are taken care of by experts who specialize in gorilla trekking.

About Gorilla Permits: What’s Included?

A gorilla permit is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and allows you to spend one hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family. The permit also includes park entry fees and the services of a ranger guide and a tourism police officer, ensuring your safety in the forest. The guide will carry a weapon (usually an AK-47) to protect the group from any potential danger from stray animals, though gorilla trekking is generally very safe.

Your gorilla permit also covers park entry fees for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park and is valid for 24 hours from the time of entry. This means your permit is valid only on the day of your trek, so be sure to be available on that day.

While you’re with the gorillas, you’ll have the chance to take photos and videos, though be mindful of the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Your guide will also share interesting insights and facts about the gorillas and their habitat, making this a truly educational experience.

Gorilla Habituation Permit: What’s Included and Excluded

If you’re looking for a more immersive gorilla experience, the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit is the perfect choice. Unlike the standard gorilla trekking permit, which allows you to spend just one hour with the gorillas, the habituation permit lets you spend up to four hours with mountain gorillas still under habituation in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This unique opportunity allows you to learn more about the gorillas’ behavior and witness their daily activities in greater detail.

Currently, the Uganda Wildlife Authority has designated two gorilla families in the southern part of Bwindi for the habituation experience. There are also unconfirmed reports of another family being habituated in the northern section of the park to serve visitors staying in the Buhoma and Ruhija areas.

As part of the Gorilla Habituation Experience, you’ll receive a certificate confirming your participation and your permit fee will contribute directly to gorilla conservation efforts and community development in the region. The revenue from permits helps support local communities by funding projects such as schools, hospitals and job creation, as well as supporting the Uganda Wildlife Authority staff.

What’s Included in the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit?

• Four hours with mountain gorillas: Spend an extended time observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
• Certificate of Participation: You’ll receive a certificate confirming your unique experience.
• Conservation Contribution: A portion of the permit fee goes toward mountain gorilla conservation and local community development.
• Guided Trek: An experienced ranger guide will lead your trek, ensuring both your safety and providing valuable insights about the gorillas.

What’s Not Included?

While the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit covers the trekking permit and essential services, it does not include accommodation or transportation to and from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. But don’t worry—we’ve got you covered!

At Trek Africa Gorillas, we handle all your accommodation and transportation needs to ensure a hassle-free experience for your spring holiday gorilla trek. Whether you’re looking for budget, deluxe or luxury options, we work with a variety of top-rated lodges in and around Bwindi to suit your preferences.

Accommodation Options for Your Spring Holiday Gorilla Trek

Whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, a deluxe experience or a luxury stay, we can recommend the best places based on your budget and preferences.

To ensure a smooth and comfortable journey, Trek Africa Gorillas offers a fleet of luxury Land Cruisers for those seeking a high-end experience, as well as customized safari vans for more budget-conscious travelers. All of our vehicles are 4×4, making them ideal for the rough African terrain and they come with drinking water and comfortable seating.

Our professional and well-trained local driver-guides will ensure you have a safe and enjoyable ride to Bwindi. We also provide airport transfers from Kigali (Rwanda) or Entebbe (Uganda), so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic journey.

Flying to Kigali, Rwanda or Entebbe, Uganda

For your spring holiday gorilla trekking tour, you have the option to fly into Kigali (Rwanda) or Entebbe (Uganda). Many of our guests prefer flying into Kigali to avoid the long drive from Entebbe to Bwindi. If you choose to fly into Entebbe, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive through Uganda’s stunning landscapes, with stops at the equator, opportunities to see Ankole long-horned cattle and views of the rolling hills of Kigezi.

No matter which airport you choose, we’ll take care of your airport transfers and transportation to and from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, ensuring a seamless journey.
