Hiking Mount Sabyinyo

Hiking Mount Sabyinyo: A Unique Adventure in the Virunga Mountains

Mount Sabyinyo, one of the oldest volcanoes in the Virunga Mountain range, stands at an impressive 3,645 meters (11,959 feet) above sea level. Situated on the border of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, it offers one of the most scenic and rewarding hikes in the region. Known for its unique peaks, Mount Sabyinyo provides a rare opportunity to hike across three countries in one trek.

The hike to the summit takes about 4 hours, with the best time to start being in the morning to enjoy cool temperatures and stunning views. Along the way, you might spot a variety of wildlife, including Golden Monkeys, Mountain Gorillas and other animals such as buffaloes, hyenas and warthogs. A good level of fitness is recommended, as the hike can be challenging but well worth the effort for the panoramic views from the top.
