Top Romantic Things to Do on Your Lake Mutanda Honeymoon

Canoe Trip or Paddleboarding

Take a romantic canoe ride on Lake Mutanda’s serene waters in a traditional dug-out canoe. For a fun twist, try stand-up paddle boarding together while soaking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and islands. Don’t forget to enjoy a glass of wine during a sunset boat cruise, creating memories you’ll cherish forever.

Visit to Mukozi Village

Embark on a cultural adventure by taking a boat or scenic walk to Kyangushu Island, home to an ancestral burial site. Explore the picturesque Mukozi village, where you’ll experience local traditions. The friendly children at the nursery school will greet you warmly and you’ll have the chance to meet a craft maker and a traditional healer. Wrap up your visit with a refreshing drink at a local bar, immersing yourself in the village’s atmosphere.

Batwa Trail and Garama Cave

Discover the rich culture of the Batwa people, Uganda’s indigenous forest dwellers. The Batwa Trail offers an authentic experience where you can learn about their history, traditions, dances and way of life. You’ll also visit Garama Cave, a fascinating historical site now inhabited by bats. This cultural encounter can be easily arranged at your resort or in advance through Trek Africa Gorillas.

Swimming and Sunbathing

Lake Mutanda is one of the few bilharzia-free lakes in Uganda, making it the perfect place for a refreshing swim. After your swim, relax in the garden or enjoy a sunrise yoga session for the ultimate honeymoon experience.

Mutanda Island Trip

Take a scenic boat trip to Mutanda Island, the largest and only inhabited island on the lake. The trip, which takes 2-3 hours, offers incredible views of the Congo border, Lake Mulehe and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You can also visit the burial site at Kyangushu Island along the way. Consider joining other guests from the resort for this trip to make it even more enjoyable and cost-effective.

Volcano Hike in Mgahinga National Park

For adventurous honeymooners, a volcano hike in Mgahinga National Park is a must. The park is home to the three Virunga volcanoes: Mount Sabinyo, Mount Gahinga and Mount Muhabura. Depending on your fitness level, choose a hike that suits you:

• Mount Sabinyo: At 3,669 meters, this hike takes about eight hours, with breathtaking views from the summit.
• Mount Gahinga: The smallest volcano at 3,474 meters, this six-hour hike leads you to a swamp-filled crater.
• Mount Muhabura: The highest peak at 4,127 meters, this challenging eight-hour hike rewards you with stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes, Lake Edward, Bwindi Forest and the Rwenzori Mountains. Along the way, you may encounter forest elephants, primates and, with luck, gorillas.

Golden Monkey Tracking in Mgahinga National Park

Golden monkey tracking is an unforgettable experience, especially for honeymooners seeking adventure and rare wildlife encounters. These beautiful, rare primates can be found in Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park, making it a must-do activity when visiting the area. Golden monkeys are found in only two places in East Africa: Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Their colorful, golden fur and playful nature make them a joy to observe in their natural habitat.

Tracking golden monkeys is one of the park’s key attractions and Mgahinga National Park offers an unforgettable experience for wildlife enthusiasts. There are two habituated groups of golden monkeys available for trekking. The trek begins early in the morning, with a briefing at the park headquarters to discuss the dos and don’ts while in the forest. After the briefing, you’ll embark on a guided walk through the lush forest with park rangers, searching for the golden monkeys. Once located, you’ll have the opportunity to observe and take photos for one hour. A golden monkey trekking permit costs USD 100 per person, as per the Uganda Wildlife Authority tariff for 2020-2021.

How to Reach Lake Mutanda for Your Romantic Getaway
