Best Time to Go Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga National Park

The best time for golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga National Park is during Uganda’s dry seasons, which run from June to October and December to March. During these months, the weather is mild with minimal rainfall, making trekking through the forests more manageable. The vegetation is also less dense, providing clearer views and better photo opportunities while spotting the golden monkeys.

On the other hand, the wet season (April, May and November) sees taller vegetation and occasional rain, which can make sightings a bit more challenging. However, the good news is that treks tend to be shorter during this time, as the golden monkeys remain in smaller areas where food is plentiful.

That being said, golden monkey sightings are possible year-round in Mgahinga and you’ll have a 99% chance of encountering them, no matter when you visit. The well-organized trekking system ensures a great experience throughout the year.
