Do You Own the Gorilla Permit After Purchase?

After payment, you’ll receive a receipt with a booking ID, which serves as proof for your trek. Tour operators will send you a scanned copy of this receipt as confirmation. The physical permit is typically handed over a week before your trek and must be returned to UWA after the experience, as it will be reused for records.

How Long Is a Gorilla Permit Valid?

A gorilla permit is valid for the specific date of your scheduled trek. If you miss your trek, the permit becomes invalid. To reschedule, contact your tour operator at least one week in advance for assistance and availability.

• USD 800 per person for Foreign Non-Residents
• USD 700 for East African Residents
• USD 80 for East African Citizens

Best Time for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

The best times for gorilla trekking in Uganda are during the dry seasons: January to February and June to early September. These months offer clearer trails and better visibility for photography. Wet seasons (March–May and October–November) make trails slippery and vegetation thicker, though permits may be easier to obtain during this time.

How to Get to Bwindi for Gorilla Trekking

By Road: From Entebbe/Kampala, it’s an 8–9 hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The route may vary depending on your trekking sector (Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga or Nkuringo).

By Air: Fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kampala’s Kajjansi Airfield to Kihihi (for Buhoma and Ruhija) or Kisoro (for Rushaga and Nkuringo). Transfers from the airstrip to your lodge can be arranged.
