Top National Parks to Visit on a Juba Day Tour

Bandingilo National Park

Located in South Sudan’s Equatorial region, near the White Nile River, Bandingilo National Park is a wildlife haven. Spanning over 10,000 square kilometers, this park offers diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife and an opportunity to witness one of the world’s largest animal migrations—second only to the Great Migration.

Among the park’s diverse wildlife are various species of antelope, including reedbuck, tiang and white-eared kob. You’ll also encounter African wild dogs, cheetahs, leopards, lions and spotted hyenas. Birdwatching is also a rewarding experience, with numerous species calling the park home.

Nimule National Park

Nimule National Park lies in South Sudan’s southernmost region, on the border with Uganda. This picturesque park, traversed by the White Nile, is perfect for those looking to enjoy breathtaking landscapes while spotting wildlife. Its savanna woodlands, riverine forests and wildlife-rich buffer zones make it an ideal location for safari enthusiasts.

Wildlife in Nimule National Park includes hippos, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, rhinos and wild pigs, among others. During the wet season, it’s also a great place to see primates like olive baboons, vervet monkeys and chimpanzees. The park is especially known for its hippos in the Nile River and the stunning Fula Waterfalls, where you can experience the rapids of South Sudan.

Boma National Park

Situated in eastern South Sudan near the Ethiopian border, Boma National Park is a haven for wildlife lovers. Established in 1977, this vast park spans 22,800 square kilometers and is home to one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in South Sudan. Boma is known for its grasslands, floodplains and open savannahs, offering magnificent landscape views.

Wildlife here includes white-eared kob, tiang, Mongalla gazelle, buffalo, elephant, African leopard, Nubian giraffe and cheetahs, just to name a few. It’s also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with notable species such as the Ruppell’s vulture and black-chested snake eagle.

Other National Parks to Explore

In addition to Bandingilo, Nimule and Boma, South Sudan is home to several other remarkable national parks, including:

• Shambe National Park
• Lantoto National Park
• Southern National Park

Each park offers a unique experience, from wildlife safaris to pristine landscapes and rich biodiversity.
