Abundant Wildlife Encounters

Katavi National Park is famous for its large herds of buffaloes, which are among the largest on the planet. One of the highlights of a safari here is the opportunity to witness hippos in large numbers, especially towards the end of the dry season when nearly 200 hippos can be found in any riverine pool deep enough to support them. Along with these magnificent creatures, the park is home to a variety of wildlife including:

• Elephants
• Lions
• Leopards
• Zebras
• Topis

Katavi also offers fantastic birdwatching opportunities with over 400 species of birds calling the park home.

Cultural Heritage: The Tamarind Tree

Another intriguing cultural site within the park is the Tamarind Tree, which is said to house the spirit of a legendary hunter named Katabi. You can visit this historical tree and even make offerings in honor of this great huntsman, adding a spiritual and cultural layer to your safari experience.
