Where Gorilla Trekking Happens in Rwanda

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda takes place in Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwestern region of the country. The park is home to the endangered mountain gorillas, thriving in lush bamboo forests and montane vegetation.

Each day, gorilla trekking is conducted with a maximum of 8 visitors per gorilla group. The experience begins with a briefing at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) headquarters at 7 AM, where trekkers receive instructions on safety, trekking etiquette and conservation guidelines. Treks can range from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the gorilla group’s location. Once found, visitors can spend one hour observing these incredible primates in their natural habitat.
