Best Time to Go Gorilla Trekking in Buhoma

The best time to go gorilla trekking in Buhoma, Bwindi is during Uganda’s dry season, which typically lasts from June to October and December to March. During these months, rainfall is mild, making trekking conditions easier and more comfortable. The vegetation is also less dense, which improves visibility and enhances your chances of spotting the mountain gorillas. These months offer the best conditions for both trekking and photography, as the gorillas are more visible amidst the lush forest backdrop.

On the other hand, the wet season, from April to May and November, sees higher rainfall, which can make the trails muddy and the vegetation thicker, making gorilla sightings a bit more challenging. However, the gorilla trekking experiences during these months are often shorter because the mountain gorillas tend to stay within a smaller area in search of food, which is more readily available.

While the dry season is ideal for trekking, the Gorilla Habituation Experience is available year-round, with a 99% chance of seeing the gorillas no matter when you visit.
