Gorilla Trekking from Mbarara to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Yes, you can go gorilla trekking in Bwindi from Mbarara! This journey requires a minimum of three days to fully experience the beauty of Bwindi. The park is about a 4-5 hour drive (218 km) via the Kabale-Mbarara Road.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests and was designated a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 1994. The park is home to over 400 plant species and 120 mammals, including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, baboons, forest elephants and antelopes.

Gorilla trekking is the highlight of any visit to Bwindi. Every day, a limited number of gorilla permits are issued, allowing visitors to spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family. Gorilla trekking permits cost:

• $800 per person for Non-Foreign Residents
