Gorilla Trekking Permits in Uganda: Cost and How to Book

A gorilla trekking permit in Uganda costs:

• $800 per person for foreign non-residents
• $700 per person for residents
• $80 per person for East African citizens (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan)

This permit allows you to spend one hour with the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Uganda is home to 17 habituated gorilla families, with 16 in Bwindi and 1 in Mgahinga. This means that there are 136 permits available daily for gorilla trekking.

If you’re looking to spend more time with the gorillas, consider the Gorilla Habituation Experience, available only in Bwindi. The Gorilla Habituation permit costs $1500 and allows you to spend four hours with semi-habituated gorillas under the guidance of expert trackers and researchers.

When to Book Gorilla Trekking in Buhoma

To secure your permits, we’ll request full payment for the permits upfront. The remaining balance for your safari can be paid 3 weeks before the start of your trip. This ensures your booking is confirmed and you can relax, knowing your permits and accommodations are taken care of.
