The mountain gorillas are the star attraction, with half of the global population residing in Bwindi, spread across 15 habituated gorilla families available for trekking. Each family allows a maximum of 8 visitors per day, ensuring a personal and memorable experience.

Packing Tips: What to Wear for Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Preparing for a gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda? One of the most common questions travelers ask is, “What should I wear?” Here’s a helpful guide to ensure you’re comfortable, safe and prepared for your trek through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

1. Long-Sleeve Sweater: The weather in Bwindi can be chilly, especially in the early mornings. A long-sleeve sweater will keep you warm and comfortable.
2. Two Pairs of Long Trousers: It’s essential to wear long trousers to protect your legs from the dense forest, thorny plants and insects. Consider packing an extra pair in case one gets wet or muddy.
3. Waterproof Hiking Boots: The terrain in the forest can be slippery and muddy, so sturdy, waterproof hiking boots are a must for comfort and safety.
4. Hat and Sunglasses: If the sun is shining, a hat and sunglasses will protect you from the sun’s rays. These are optional but helpful during sunny weather.
5. Camera and Extra Batteries: Capture the amazing moments with the mountain gorillas! Don’t forget to bring a camera with long-lasting batteries, as the trek can last several hours. Make sure to keep the flash off to avoid disturbing the gorillas.
6. Binoculars: Bwindi is a biodiversity hotspot with many bird species and other wildlife. A pair of binoculars will help you spot birds and other creatures along the way.
7. Gardening Gloves: These gloves will come in handy when holding onto trees or branches while trekking through the forest.
8. Raincoat: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a rainforest, so rain is unpredictable. Bring a light, packable raincoat to stay dry during unexpected downpours.
9. Mosquito Repellent: As the forest is home to various insects, it’s a good idea to wear or carry mosquito repellent to protect yourself from bites.
10. Sunscreen: Depending on the season, the sun can be quite strong. Protect your skin from sunburn by applying sunscreen, especially during the midday hours.
11. Neutral Clothing: Avoid wearing bright colors, as they might scare the gorillas. It’s also best to avoid black or blue, as these colors attract tsetse flies. Stick to neutral tones like green, brown or khaki for a more natural look.
