Where to Go for New Year’s Gorilla Trekking in Africa: Top Parks and Locations

Gorilla trekking takes place in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These three countries host the only remaining mountain gorillas, found in four national parks:

• Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
• Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park
• Congo: Virunga National Park (Mountain Gorillas) & Kahuzi-Biega National Park (Eastern Lowland Gorillas)

A gorilla permit is required for trekking in any of these national parks. Given the high demand during peak seasons (June to September and December to February), we advise booking at least five months in advance. You can book your permit directly or through a trusted tour operator like Trek Africa Gorillas.
