Nkuringo Orphanage and Bright Future School

Nkuringo Orphanage and Bright Future School

Nestled in the Nkuringo region of southern Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Nkuringo Orphanage and Bright Future School is a vital initiative dedicated to supporting and educating children, including orphans from the local area. Founded by Arthur Kajubwami in 2005, the school began with just 10 students and has since grown to accommodate over 300 children. Arthur was inspired to create this school after witnessing the hardships faced by children who were overworked, homeless or displaced due to family illness and tragedy.

Education and Vocational Training for a Brighter Future

Nkuringo Orphanage and Bright Future School not only provides a solid academic curriculum but also equips students with essential vocational skills. Children learn practical skills such as tailoring, beekeeping, farming and animal care—preparing them for employment opportunities beyond their education. This unique approach offers a pathway to a brighter future for children in this rural area, where such training is otherwise scarce.

Volunteer and Make a Difference: How You Can Help

Through Trek Africa Gorillas, you can contribute to the Nkuringo Orphanage and Bright Future School in various meaningful ways. Here are some suggestions:

• Volunteer Your Time: Spend a day teaching English or other skills to the children. Your presence can inspire hope and uplift their spirits.
• Donate Supplies: Many travelers who visit the school often ask how they can help. Common contributions include funding for school desks, school supplies, sports equipment and clothing.
• Sponsor a Child: A small monthly contribution can make a significant difference in a child’s life. With many children in need, not all can attend school due to financial constraints. Currently, the school supports around 232 orphans and vulnerable children aged 4 to 14, most of whom require sponsorship.
