Best Places to See Primates in Uganda During Christmas

The top forests and national parks for Christmas primate safaris include:

• Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – For gorilla trekking
• Mgahinga Gorilla National Park – For gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking
• Kibale Forest National Park – The best destination for chimpanzee trekking
• Budongo Forest, Kalinzu Forest & Kyambura Gorge – Home to chimpanzees and other primates

Best Time to See Primates in Uganda

While primates can be seen all year round, the best time for trekking is during the dry seasons:

✅ June – October
✅ December – March

Why is this the best time?

• Easier trekking – Dry trails make hiking through the forest more manageable.
• Better visibility – Shorter vegetation allows for clearer primate sightings and great photography.

During the rainy months (April, May and November), treks may be shorter since food is more abundant, meaning primates don’t move as far. However, trails can be muddy and visibility may be reduced due to dense vegetation.

How Much Does a Christmas Primate Safari in Uganda Cost?

The cost of your Christmas primate safari depends on the primates you want to see, the number of days you plan to spend and your choice of accommodation. The biggest cost is the permit, followed by transport, accommodation and guiding fees.

Is a Primate Safari in Uganda Worth the Cost?

Absolutely! A primate safari is more than just an adventure—it’s an investment in wildlife conservation and an opportunity to learn about these incredible animals.

Why Your Money Spent on a Primate Safari Matters:

✅ Supports Conservation – Your permit fees help protect endangered primates and their habitats. Without tourism, much of Uganda’s forest cover would be destroyed.
✅ Funds Local Communities – 20% of your permit fee goes directly to local communities, funding schools, hospitals and agricultural projects.
✅ Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience – Trekking to see gorillas and chimpanzees is an unforgettable experience, making the effort and cost worthwhile.

Despite the high trekking permit fees and physical effort required, many travelers return for multiple treks—especially for mountain gorillas—because of the incredible experience it offers.
