These permits allow you to spend one hour with the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. If you want a more immersive experience, you can opt for the Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi, which costs $1,500 per person and gives you a chance to spend up to four hours with the gorillas, guided by trackers and researchers.

With 17 habituated gorilla families in Uganda (16 in Bwindi and 1 in Mgahinga), only 136 permits are available each day for gorilla trekking. It’s essential to book your permits early to ensure availability.

When to Book Your Gorilla Trekking Experience in Ruhija

The best time to book your gorilla trekking experience in Ruhija is at least 3 months before your planned trip. However, for the best chances of securing your permits, we recommend booking up to a year in advance.
