Rwanda Gorilla Trekking in November: An Unforgettable Adventure
Are you dreaming of visiting Africa to witness the majestic mountain gorillas? If you’re considering Rwanda gorilla trekking in November, you’re in for a truly unique and magical experience. Trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park is one of Africa’s most remarkable travel adventures, offering an up-close encounter with these peaceful primates in their natural habitat.
Mountain gorillas are remarkably gentle, often interacting with visitors by approaching them or even greeting guides as they pass by. Spending an hour with these incredible creatures is unforgettable but it requires securing a gorilla permit in advance. Trekking to their bamboo forest habitat involves a challenging but rewarding hike through steep slopes, dense vegetation and high altitudes.
Why Visit Volcanoes National Park in November?
Volcanoes National Park, locally known as Parc des Volcans or Pariki y’Ibirunga, is located in Musanze, a small town in northeastern Rwanda. It is one of Africa’s oldest and most famous national parks. Home to endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, this park is a biodiversity hotspot, teeming with unique flora, bird species, monkeys, bushbucks, forest hogs and more.
As part of the Virunga Conservation Area, the park also encompasses five extinct volcanoes: Mount Karisimbi, Mount Bisoke, Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Gahinga and Mount Muhabura. Gorilla tourism in Volcanoes National Park significantly contributes to Rwanda’s economy, attracting visitors from around the globe.
Trekking to see these endangered gorillas in their natural environment is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as nearly half of the remaining mountain gorilla population is found in East Africa.
How Many Gorilla Permits Are Available Each Day?
Each day, Volcanoes National Park offers 80 gorilla trekking permits, with 10 habituated gorilla families available for visitors. Each family can be visited by a group of up to 8 people, ensuring an intimate experience while minimizing the impact on the gorillas.
The trek begins daily at 7:00 AM with a briefing at the Kinigi headquarters, where you’ll learn about safety guidelines and the dos and don’ts for your adventure. Although mountain gorillas share 99% of our DNA, they are wild animals and following instructions from guides and rangers is crucial.
The trekking duration varies depending on the gorillas’ location, ranging from 30 minutes to several hours. However, the chances of seeing the gorillas are very high, thanks to expert trackers and guides who monitor the gorillas’ movements.
How Much Does a Rwanda Gorilla Permit Cost?
A Rwanda gorilla permit costs $1,500 per person, regardless of nationality. This permit grants you one hour of magical interaction with the gorillas and is your ticket to an unforgettable bucket-list adventure.
At Trek Africa Gorillas, we organize tailored gorilla trekking tours in November, ensuring your experience is both affordable and memorable.
