Best Time to Book Your Gorilla Safari in Spring

Spring holidays in many northern hemisphere countries coincide with the wet season in Uganda and Rwanda. This makes spring an ideal time for your gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda, as you’ll avoid the crowds and enjoy lush, green landscapes.

It’s always a good idea to book your spring gorilla trek well in advance to secure your gorilla permits. We recommend planning your trip at least a year ahead to avoid disappointment. If you’re thinking of traveling between March and May, reach out to us today with your preferred dates and we’ll check the availability of both gorilla permits and accommodations.

How to Secure Gorilla Permits for Spring Treks

Once you’ve confirmed your dates, we’ll check the availability of gorilla permits for you. If the permits are available, we’ll send you the details and you’ll need to make a payment to secure them. We accept bank transfers, debit and credit cards (please note that card payments attract a small surcharge, which we will inform you of).

Trek Africa Gorillas has direct access to the Rwanda Development Board’s permits portal, which allows us to check the availability of permits in real time. Few operators have this privilege, ensuring that you have the most up-to-date information.

Once payment is confirmed, we’ll handle everything for you. We’ll send someone to the Rwanda Development Board to make the official payment, collect your booking ID and send you a copy of the receipt for your records. When your gorilla permit is printed, we’ll collect it on your behalf and keep it safe until your gorilla trekking tour begins.

Gorilla Permit Details: What You Need to Know

Planning to visit Africa this spring to see the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park? If so, we recommend securing your gorilla permit as early as possible to avoid disappointment, as these permits can sell out quickly.

A gorilla permit is a card issued by the Rwanda Development Board, granting you access to Volcanoes National Park to spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family. The permit is valid only for the date it’s issued, so it’s essential to be available on your scheduled trekking day. The package includes:

• One hour with a mountain gorilla family, where you can observe and take photos or short videos (please follow the guidelines for interacting with gorillas).
• Services of a trained ranger guide to lead your trek and provide valuable insights about the gorillas and the surrounding ecosystem.
• Security provided by tourism police, ensuring your safety throughout the trek.
• Park entry fees to Volcanoes National Park, valid for 24 hours.

Please note that permits are non-transferable and can only be used on the booked date, so it’s crucial to secure your dates in advance.
