When to Book Your Spring Gorilla Safari

Spring in Europe and the northern hemisphere coincides with the wet season in Uganda and Rwanda. So, the best time to book your Spring gorilla trekking holiday is right now! It’s recommended to book your gorilla permits well in advance (at least a year ahead) to avoid missing out due to limited availability.

If you’re reading this now, reach out to us with your preferred dates (between March and May) for your Spring holiday. We’ll check the availability of gorilla permits and provide you with all the necessary details.

Once we confirm the availability, you can proceed with your booking by making the payment. We accept bank transfers, wire transfers and debit/credit card payments (please note that card payments attract a small surcharge).

How to Secure Gorilla Permits for Spring Travel

To confirm your Spring holiday with us, you’ll need to pay for your gorilla permit upfront. This ensures your spot is secured. The balance for the tour can be paid three weeks before the safari begins. Once your payment is processed, we will confirm the details and send you a booking ID and receipt for your records.

At Trek Africa Gorillas, we have exclusive access to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) gorilla permit database, allowing us to check permit availability for Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks in real time. This access ensures that we can help secure your gorilla permits quickly and efficiently.

When your permits are ready, we’ll collect them from UWA in Kampala and they will be securely stored at our office until your trek. On the day of your trek, your guide will have your gorilla permit ready to present on your behalf.

What’s Included in Your Spring Gorilla Safari Package

At Trek Africa Gorillas, we believe in making your Spring holiday unforgettable by offering all-inclusive gorilla trekking packages. From gorilla permits and accommodation to transportation to and from Entebbe or Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park, we take care of all the details so that you can focus on enjoying your adventure.

What the Gorilla Permit Covers

Your gorilla permit is the key to experiencing the magic of the mountain gorillas in the wild. A gorilla permit allows you to spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park. This permit includes:

• One hour with the mountain gorillas
• Photography: Capture stunning moments with the gorillas (still photos and simple videos)
• Guided trek: A knowledgeable guide will accompany you, providing fascinating insights into the gorillas and the ecosystem
• Ranger and security services: A ranger guide and tourism police will ensure your safety in the forest
• Park entry fees: Valid for 24 hours at the park

However, please note that your gorilla permit does not cover accommodation or transportation, which Trek Africa Gorillas will take care of for you.

Upgrade to the Gorilla Habituation Experience

If you want a more immersive experience with the gorillas, consider booking the Gorilla Habituation Experience. Unlike the standard trekking permit, this option allows you to spend up to four hours with a gorilla family in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It’s an excellent choice for those wanting to get a closer look at the gorillas as they go through their daily activities.

This experience is currently available for specific families in the southern part of Bwindi, with reports of another group being habituated in the northern region to cater to visitors staying in the Buhoma and Ruhija areas.

Comfortable Lodging for Every Traveler

We understand that your stay is an important part of your experience and we work with carefully selected lodges in and around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Whether you’re on a budget or prefer a luxury experience, we offer a range of accommodations to suit every traveler’s needs.

Bwindi is divided into four sections: Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo. Each of these regions offers budget, deluxe and luxury options, with at least two lodge choices in each category. We personally assess the lodges annually to ensure the highest standards and we also keep track of customer feedback to ensure a quality experience. Simply let us know your budget and we’ll recommend the best options for you.

Travel Logistics: Getting to Bwindi

Your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will be as smooth as possible with Trek Africa Gorillas. We offer luxury 4×4 Land Cruisers for high-end travelers and customized safari vans for those seeking a more affordable option, while still enjoying comfort. All our vehicles are 4×4, perfect for Africa’s rugged terrain and are stocked with drinking water for your convenience. You’ll also have the benefit of our professional local driver-guides, ensuring that your ride is both comfortable and informative.

Fly into Kigali or Entebbe: Your Choice

For added flexibility, you can choose to fly into either Kigali, Rwanda or Entebbe, Uganda. Many travelers prefer flying into Kigali, as it offers a shorter drive to Bwindi. However, flying into Entebbe offers a scenic route, with stops at the equator, a chance to see the iconic ankle-long horned cows and the stunning rolling hills of Kigezi. Regardless of which airport you choose, we’ll assist with airport transfers and transport to and from the park.
