Best Time to Book Student Study Group Tours in Uganda and Rwanda

The best time to book student study group tours is now! Spring break typically coincides with the wet season in Uganda and Rwanda but that doesn’t stop the adventure. It’s important to plan your trip well in advance, especially for activities like gorilla trekking, which requires booking permits ahead of time.

To secure your gorilla permits, we recommend booking at least a year in advance. Send us your preferred travel dates in March to May and we will check the availability of permits for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. If permits are available for your chosen dates, we’ll let you know right away and provide details on how to proceed with the payment.

Gorilla Permits for Student Groups: What’s Included and How to Secure Yours

A gorilla permit is essential for trekking in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park. Once your group decides on dates, we’ll check the availability of permits and assist with securing them.

After confirming availability, we’ll request payment for the gorilla permits, which can be made via bank transfer, wire transfer or credit/debit card (please note a small surcharge for card payments). We work directly with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to book your permits and we have exclusive access to their permit database, allowing us to view, hold and reserve permits in real-time.

Once payment is made, we’ll obtain your gorilla permit from UWA and send you a receipt and booking ID. We’ll keep your permits safe until the day of your safari, where your guide will collect them on your behalf.

Gorilla Permit Details: What’s Included and What’s Not

A gorilla permit is an essential component of your gorilla trekking experience. This permit, issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), grants you access to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park to spend time with the endangered mountain gorillas. It allows you one hour with a habituated gorilla family in the wild, where you can take photos and videos.

Included in the gorilla permit are:

• One hour with a mountain gorilla family
• Park entry fees for Bwindi or Mgahinga (valid for 24 hours)
• A professional guide from UWA to lead the trek
• Tourism police and ranger services to ensure safety, with armed rangers (usually carrying a rifle like an AK-47) to protect against any wildlife threats.

Please note, the permit does not cover accommodation or transport to and from the park, which Trek Africa Gorillas will handle for you.

Extended Experience: Gorilla Habituation Permit for Student Groups

For those wishing to spend more time with the gorillas, we recommend the Gorilla Habituation Experience. This option allows you to spend up to four hours with gorillas who are still in the habituation process. It’s an incredible opportunity for more intimate interactions and a deeper understanding of these magnificent creatures.

The Gorilla Habituation Permit includes:

• Up to four hours with a gorilla family
• A certificate of participation
• Support for mountain gorilla conservation (part of the fee goes towards preserving the species and supporting the local community)

While the habituation experience offers more time with the gorillas, it does not include accommodation or transportation to Bwindi, which Trek Africa Gorillas will arrange for you.
