Best Time to Book Your Summer Holiday Gorilla Trekking Safari

The summer holidays in Europe and other parts of the Northern Hemisphere align perfectly with the drier seasons in Uganda and Rwanda, making it an ideal time for a gorilla trekking safari. However, keep in mind that these drier months coincide with the peak tourist season and gorilla permits and lodge rooms tend to sell out quickly.

To ensure you don’t miss out on your dream trip, we recommend booking your Summer Holiday Gorilla Trekking Safari as early as possible, ideally a year in advance. This gives you the best chance to secure your gorilla permits for the dates you desire. If you’re reading this and thinking about your summer holiday, don’t wait! Send us your preferred dates between June and September and we’ll check the availability of permits for both Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park.

Once we’ve confirmed the availability of gorilla permits, we will promptly notify you via email. After that, you can make the payment through our secure payment methods, either via bank transfer or credit/debit card (note that credit card payments incur a small surcharge).

How We Secure Your Gorilla Permits

To guarantee your spot for the Summer Holiday Gorilla Trekking Safari, Trek Africa Gorillas requires full payment for your gorilla permits in advance. The balance of your trip can be paid up to three weeks before your safari begins. This approach gives you ample time to arrange the remaining payments, knowing that your gorilla permit—the essential part of your safari—is already secured.

As one of the few registered and trusted tour operators in Uganda, we have direct access to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) gorilla permit database. This exclusive access allows us to check the availability of permits in real time and hold them for you, ensuring that your permits are locked in for your preferred dates. Not many tour operators have this direct access, so you can trust that we’re in a position to assist you every step of the way.

Our Process for Booking and Securing Gorilla Permits

Once payment for your gorilla permits is confirmed, we’ll send someone from our team to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) office in Kampala to finalize the booking. They’ll collect your booking ID and receipt, which we will then send to you for your records.

After the permits are printed, we will collect the gorilla permit cards from UWA and keep them securely in our office until your safari begins. On the day of your trek, your guide will have your permit card, which you’ll need to present at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park for your gorilla trek.

What’s Included in Our Summer Holiday Gorilla Trekking Safari to Africa

At Trek Africa Gorillas, we pride ourselves on offering all-inclusive gorilla trekking safari packages for summer holidaymakers. Our tours cover everything, from gorilla permits and accommodation to transport to and from Entebbe or Kigali, making your experience as stress-free and seamless as possible. We handle all the details so you can relax and focus on enjoying your once-in-a-lifetime African adventure. Let’s break down everything included in your Summer Holiday Gorilla Trekking Safari with us.

Gorilla Permit: What’s Included and What’s Not

To trek gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park, you’ll need a gorilla permit, which is included in all our safari packages. This permit grants you access to spend one hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family in the wild. The permit also includes the following:

• Park entry fees for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park (valid for 24 hours)
• A ranger guide and tourism police for your safety and security in the forest
• Guided trek to find your gorilla family
• The opportunity to take photos and simple videos of the gorillas during your one-hour encounter

Please note, the gorilla permit does not cover accommodation, transport or meals—these are arranged separately by Trek Africa Gorillas as part of your full package. Also, remember that gorilla permits are date-specific and cannot be transferred or refunded if you miss your trek.

Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit: More Time with Gorillas

For those who want a deeper, more immersive experience, consider booking the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit. This option allows you to spend up to four hours with mountain gorillas still undergoing habituation, providing a unique opportunity to learn more about their behavior and interactions.

• The Gorilla Habituation Experience is currently available in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with two habituated gorilla families. There are also reports of another family being habituated in the northern region, catering to visitors from Buhoma and Ruhija.
• This permit is perfect for those seeking a more personal and extended encounter with the gorillas.

Just like the regular gorilla permit, the habituation permit doesn’t include accommodation or transport but we’ll take care of everything else to ensure a smooth experience.

Lodging for Your Summer Holiday Gorilla Trek

Trek Africa Gorillas works with a variety of lodges near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to suit every budget. Whether you’re looking for a budget, deluxe or luxury stay, we can recommend the perfect option for you. Bwindi has four main regions—Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo—each offering different accommodation choices.

We regularly assess and visit our partner lodges to ensure they maintain high standards of service, so you can rest assured your stay will be comfortable and memorable. Let us know your budget and we’ll provide the best options for you.

Transport to and from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Getting to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park doesn’t have to be stressful. Trek Africa Gorillas provides comfortable transport in 4×4 vehicles, including luxury Land Cruisers for high-end travelers and customized safari vans for those looking for a more budget-friendly option. All our vehicles are well-equipped for Uganda’s rugged terrain and come with drinking water to keep you refreshed on your journey.

We’ll arrange airport transfers and transport to and from Bwindi to ensure a smooth and comfortable ride.

Flying to Kigali, Rwanda or Entebbe, Uganda

For added flexibility, you can choose to fly into Kigali (Rwanda) or Entebbe (Uganda). Many travelers prefer flying into Kigali for easier access to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, as the drive from Kigali is shorter.

• If you fly into Entebbe, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive that takes you through Kigezi’s rolling hills, a stop at the Equator crossing and views of Uganda’s iconic long-horned cattle.

Either way, we’ll arrange everything for you, including airport transfers and transport to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
