Uganda Safari with an Arabic-Speaking Guide: Your Ultimate Gorilla Trekking Adventure

Are you an Arabic speaker planning a trip to Uganda to experience gorilla trekking and explore other national parks for wildlife viewing? If so, having an Arabic-speaking guide can make your adventure more enjoyable and stress-free. This guide provides helpful information to ensure your gorilla trekking safari in Africa is a success.

Gorilla Trekking: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Wildlife Experience in Africa

Gorilla trekking is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences you can have in Africa. Despite the costs, time and physical effort involved, the reward of encountering mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is unmatched. This unique activity takes place in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), attracting travelers from around the world.

At Trek Africa Gorillas, we organize gorilla trekking safaris with Arabic-speaking guides. Whether you’re navigating difficult terrain, crossing rivers or hiking through dense forests, our team ensures your trip is smooth and well-planned. For those seeking an even more immersive experience, we offer Gorilla Habituation Experiences in Uganda, allowing you to spend up to four hours with these majestic creatures in their natural environment.

Top Gorilla Trekking Destinations in Africa

Gorilla trekking is available in three countries, home to the remaining mountain gorillas and lowland gorillas:

• Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
• Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park
• DR Congo: Virunga National Park (mountain gorillas) and Kahuzi-Biega National Park (lowland gorillas)

Each of these parks offers a unique gorilla trekking experience. However, you’ll need to secure a gorilla permit to participate. It’s highly recommended to book your permit at least 5 months in advance, especially during the peak season (June–September), as availability is limited.

Gorilla Permit Costs Across Africa

Uganda Gorilla Permit Prices

• $800: Foreign non-residents
• $700: Foreign residents
• $80: East African citizens

Uganda has 20 habituated gorilla families, with 16 in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and 1 in Mgahinga National Park. This means 136 permits are available daily for trekking. For a more immersive experience, the Gorilla Habituation Permit costs $1,500, allowing you to spend 4 hours with semi-habituated gorillas in Bwindi.

You can book permits through the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or via a trusted tour operator like Trek Africa Gorillas.

Rwanda Gorilla Permit Prices

• $1,500: Foreign non-residents
• $500: Foreign residents
• $200: East African citizens

Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is home to 12 habituated gorilla families, offering 96 permits daily for trekking. Permits can be booked through the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) or a reliable tour operator.

DR Congo Gorilla Permit Prices

• Virunga National Park:
  • $400 (high season)
  • $200 (low season)
• Kahuzi-Biega National Park (lowland gorillas):
  • $400: Foreign non-residents
  • $200: East African residents
  • $20: National residents

Permits for DR Congo can be booked through Virunga National Park or trusted operators like Trek Africa Gorillas.

What Does a Gorilla Permit Cover?

A gorilla permit only covers the cost of trekking and your one-hour encounter with the gorillas (or 4 hours for habituation experiences). It does not include expenses such as accommodation, meals, transportation or airfare. When booking your safari, make sure to discuss the full package details with your tour operator.

Age Restrictions and Accessibility for Gorilla Trekking

The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Africa is 15 years, while the maximum age is typically 85 years, depending on an individual’s fitness level. For elderly travelers or those with mobility challenges, gorilla trekking is made easier in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest through the use of sedan chairs. These specially designed chairs allow travelers who are unable to hike to be carried into the forest by experienced porters. The sedan chair service can be arranged in advance or on the day of the trek, with costs ranging between $400 and $500.

Gorilla Permit Cancellation Policies in Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo

To go gorilla trekking, you’ll need a gorilla permit and if you’re traveling with an Arabic-speaking guide, you’ll need to purchase a permit for them as well to trek alongside you. Gorilla permits are non-refundable if canceled within 8 days or less before the scheduled trekking date. However, due to recent global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic, cancellation policies have been relaxed. For example, Uganda allowed affected travelers to reschedule their trekking dates up to twice without penalties.

Best Seasons for Gorilla Trekking in Africa

Gorilla trekking can be done year-round but the best time to visit is during the dry seasons:

• January to February
• June to early September

These months offer easier access to the parks, with less muddy trails and better visibility of the gorillas due to reduced vegetation growth.
