Filming Requirements and Permits

If you’re a filmmaker planning to shoot at Lake Tanganyika, obtaining a filming permit is essential. The process can be time-consuming and costly but Trek Africa Gorillas can assist in handling the applications through the local Burundi consulate.

Important Notes for Filmmakers:

• Unauthorized filming or photography of government buildings, military sites or key infrastructure (like airports and borders) is illegal and could lead to penalties, including arrest or confiscation of equipment.
• Permissions from local authorities are mandatory for filming in fishing villages or other specific areas.

Other Costs for Filming:

• Visas and Work Permits: Secure either a tourist or business visa for entry into Burundi. Visas are available upon arrival and proof of yellow fever vaccination and a negative COVID-19 certificate may be required.
• Accommodation and Transportation: Accommodation ranges from budget to luxury and we recommend 4×4 Land Cruisers or Safari Vans for ease of travel to filming locations.
• Film Fixers: Our experienced drivers double as local fixers, ensuring a smooth filming experience on the ground.
