Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in terms of pricing for this unique safari experience.

What Does the 5-Day Gorilla and Chimpanzee Habituation Trip Include?

Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The Gorilla Habituation Experience takes place exclusively in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is a rare and life-changing opportunity to spend extended time with endangered mountain gorillas. The process of habituating these gorillas involves a series of visits by researchers, guides and select visitors, allowing the gorillas to gradually become accustomed to human presence.

The habituation process can take up to 3 years and during that time, researchers get to know the gorillas’ behavior, movements, feeding patterns and social interactions. Eventually, the gorillas become more comfortable with humans and they are assigned individual names.

The Gorilla Habituation Experience allows you to spend up to 4 hours with the gorillas in their natural habitat. This is a much longer time than the usual gorilla trekking, providing deeper insights into their daily lives. The experience takes place every day in the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors of Bwindi.

• Permits for Gorilla Habituation:
  • USD 1,500 for Non-Foreign Residents
  • USD 1,000 for Foreign Residents
  • UGX 750,000 for East African Citizens

This price includes the full 4-hour experience with the gorillas, which begins with a briefing at 6:00 AM. Only four tourists are allowed to join the researchers and guides each day, making this an intimate and special encounter.

Chimpanzee Habituation Experience in Kibale Forest National Park

Next, head to Kibale Forest National Park, home to one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in the world. The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience gives you the opportunity to spend four hours with chimpanzees as they become accustomed to human presence. While chimps can initially be shy and avoid contact, you’ll have the chance to observe their behavior, social interactions, feeding habits and movements within their communities.

The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience is guided by researchers and forest rangers, ensuring that you have an educational and safe encounter with the chimps. It’s an incredible way to witness the intelligence and social complexity of these fascinating creatures.

• Permits for Chimpanzee Habituation:
  • USD 300 for Non-Foreign Residents
  • USD 250 for Foreign Residents
