Where to Stay in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Planning a visit to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park? Choosing the right lodge for your stay is crucial to ensure a seamless gorilla trekking experience. Bwindi is divided into four distinct sectors, each offering unique accommodations and experiences. The sectors include Nkuringo and Rushaga in the southern region and Buhoma and Ruhija in the northern and northeastern areas. Gorilla trekking is the main activity in all four sectors but the unique Gorilla Habituation Experience, which allows you to spend four hours with semi-habituated gorillas, is exclusive to the southern sectors (Rushaga and Nkuringo).

To make the most of your visit, it’s essential to book accommodations within the sector where your trekking permit is allocated. This avoids unnecessary travel and stress on the day of your trek. If you’re uncertain about the best place to stay, feel free to contact us for expert advice and recommendations.

Best Time to Visit Bwindi for Gorilla Trekking

Bwindi is open for trekking all year round but the dry seasons—June to October and December to March—are the best times to visit. During these months, the trails are less slippery and the vegetation is less dense, making it easier to spot gorillas and capture great photos.

The wet seasons (April, May and November) bring higher rainfall, which makes trekking more challenging. However, during these months, gorillas tend to stay closer to the forest edges due to abundant food, resulting in shorter treks. Additionally, some lodges offer discounts during the rainy season, making it a good option for budget travelers.
