The trek can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements.

To participate in gorilla trekking, you’ll need a Rwanda gorilla permit, which costs USD 1,500. This permit grants you one hour of viewing time with the gorillas, allowing for photography and unforgettable memories. Golden Monkey Tracking

The golden monkey trekking permit costs USD 100 and can be obtained from the Rwanda Development Board. The activity also begins at the park headquarters at 7:00 AM, where park wardens will brief you on the guidelines. Expect to walk for 30 minutes to a few hours in search of these lively primates, and once located, you’ll have one hour to observe and enjoy their playful antics.

Visiting Dian Fossey’s Tomb and Hike

One of the most cherished experiences in Volcanoes National Park is the hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. This memorable trek begins at the Karisoke Research Camp and takes about an hour to reach the tomb of the renowned primatologist. Dian Fossey dedicated her life to protecting endangered mountain gorillas, raising awareness about their plight, and conducting groundbreaking research.
