Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National Park is a renowned wildlife sanctuary located south of central Kenya. Known globally for its spectacular flocks of flamingoes, the park is named after Lake Nakuru, which translates to “dusty place” in the Maasai language, reflecting the loose, dusty soil during the dry season. This destination is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Kenya and has been featured in numerous wildlife documentaries showcasing its vibrant flamingo population. Interestingly, the beloved Disney character Pumbaa from “The Lion King” is inspired by the warthogs found in this region. Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley soda lakes that flow eastwards. It is a shallow lake rich in algae, attracting millions of flamingoes that create a mesmerizing pink and white spectacle along the shoreline.
