Tour Plan

Day 1

Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Kasese for Overnight

After breakfast, you will be picked up from either the airport or your guest house to begin your journey to Kasese. The drive will take approximately 8 hours, with a stopover in Mubende for lunch. You'll continue to Kasese for an overnight stay at a local hotel as you prepare for the next day’s trek.

  • Meals: All meals included
Day 2

Transfer to Sine Camp

You'll transfer to the mountain's base to begin the climb from 1,450 meters to Sine Hut at 2,680 meters, where you'll spend the night. The hike starts in the valley, ascending through the Afro Montane Forest Zone, home to various birds, blue monkeys, and possibly even troupes of black-and-white colobus monkeys. Rare sightings of the L’Hoest monkey are possible, along with the distant calls of wild chimpanzees. The forest is rich with diverse plant species, including forest trees, bamboo thickets, and hanging moss and lichen-covered vines. Enock’s Falls, located just 300 meters from Sine Hut, offer a perfect opportunity for a memorable photo. Sine Camp is set among tall forest trees on a narrow ridge, providing a stunning view of a waterfall crashing over rocks far below.

  • Meals: All meals included
Day 3

Climb to Mutinda Camp

The trek begins at 8:00 AM, immediately entering the Bamboo-Mimulopsis Zone, a steep climb with many high steps. In the wet season, this area can be muddy and slippery, slowing the pace. However, the beauty of the forest is undeniable as you ascend 551 meters over a distance of 1.8 km to Kalalama Camp at 3,147 meters. Here, you can rest and enjoy a quick cup of tea or coffee before continuing to Mutinda Camp. The trail meanders up and down a ridge, crossing several small streams and passing close to moss-covered waterfalls.

  • Meals: All meals included
Day 4

Hike to Bugata Camp

After breakfast at 8:00 AM, you'll embark on the trail to Bugata Camp, which can be boggy, especially during the wet season. With some skill, you can navigate the tussock grass and everlasting flowers interspersed with Giant Lobelias. The trail climbs steeply to the Namusangi Valley at 3,840 meters, offering fantastic views of Mutinda Peaks. The valley is wide with many ups and downs, steadily climbing to Bugata Camp at 4,100 meters.

  • Accommodation: Bugata Camp
  • Meals: All meals included
Day 5

Hike to Hunwick’s Camp

Trek to Hunwick’s Camp via Bamwanjarra Pass. The route takes you past a ridge and then ascends to Bamwanjarra Pass at 4,450 meters, where there is a hut in case of bad weather. On clear days, you can enjoy excellent views of the three main peaks. The trail descends into the valley and passes through thick evergreen vegetation, with opportunities to observe the Malachite Sunbird feeding on lobelia flowers. After some steep sections, you'll reach Hunwick’s Camp, located on a ridge with views of Mt. Stanley, Mt. Baker, Weismann’s Peak, and McConnell’s Prong.

  • Accommodation: Hunwick’s Camp
  • Meals: All meals included
Day 6

Transfer to Kiharo Camp

From Hunwick’s Camp, you'll descend across the valley floor to Lake Kitendara, a stunning location with deep water and beautiful vegetation. The trail then climbs up Scott Elliott’s Pass and continues to Margherita Camp at 4,485 meters, situated among large rocks that provide shelter from strong winds. This is the same spot where the Duke of Abruzzi camped during his 1906 climb to Margherita Peak.

  • Meals: All meals included
Day 7

Descend to Samalira Camp

Rise early at 2:00 AM for breakfast before starting the climb to Mt. Stanley at 2:30 AM. This early start is crucial as weather conditions can change rapidly, with heavy clouds and snowfalls often developing from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Less experienced climbers may choose to stay on Stanley Glacier and ascend to a vantage point on the southern edge of Alexandra Peak, where they can enjoy stunning views over the Congo and lower mountain ridges. After reaching the peak at 5,109 meters, you'll descend directly to Hunwick’s Camp at 3,874 meters.

  • Accommodation: Hunwick’s Camp
  • Meals: All meals included
Day 8

Descend to Base Camp

From Hunwick’s Camp, you'll start the day by climbing a ridge toward McConnell’s Prong, where you can enjoy the best views of the three main peaks and Scott Elliott’s Pass. The trail continues to Oliver’s Pass at 4,505 meters before cutting across below Weismann’s Peak to the confluence of the Nyamwamba River. The river flows through Kilembe and Kasese to Lake George in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The trail then descends to Kiharo Camp, situated in a deep valley with high cliffs and dense vegetation.
