Getting to Rushaga from Cyanika Border

Cyanika Border is located in Kisoro District, Southwestern Uganda, approximately a 2-hour drive (about 45 km) via the Kisoro-Cyanika Road to Rushaga. After the briefing, experienced park guides, rangers, and trackers will lead you into the forest to locate the gorillas.

You’ll have one hour to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat once they are found. Please note that only eight visitors are allowed per habituated gorilla family each day, in accordance with Uganda Wildlife Authority policies aimed at conserving these amazing animals. To participate in gorilla trekking, you must be at least 15 years old.

In the Rushaga sector, you can trek various gorilla families, including the Nshongi, Mishaya, Bweza, Bikyingi, Kahungye, Busingye, and Mucunguzi families. Gorilla trekking permits cost USD 800 for non-foreign residents, USD 700 for foreign residents, and UGX 300,000 for East African citizens. There are 56 permits available daily, so early booking is recommended.

Gorilla Habituation Experience
