How Many Gorilla Permits Are Available in Volcanoes National Park?
Each day, Volcanoes National Park offers a limited number of permits. There are 10 habituated gorilla families available for trekking, with only 8 visitors allowed per family. This means a total of 80 permits are available each day, ensuring an intimate and special experience. The chances of spotting gorillas are extremely high—about 99%—with experienced trackers, guides, and rangers leading the way.
The gorilla trek usually begins at 7:00 am with a briefing on safety guidelines. While the gorillas share 98% of our DNA, they are still wild animals, so it’s important to follow all instructions from your guides. The trek itself can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on where the gorillas are located on that particular day.
