Why Hike the Rwenzori Mountains?
Rwenzori Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located along the Uganda-Congo border and is rich in biodiversity. The park is home to 70 mammal species and 217 bird species, including 19 Albertine Rift endemics. Beyond hiking, you can experience cultural encounters with the Bakonzo people, bird watching, nature walks, and stunning scenic views.
3-Day Rwenzori Hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Begin Your Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)
Your adventure begins with a briefing before setting off on a scenic 9.5 km trek, approximately 5-6 hours of walking. You’ll journey through the lush Afro-montane forest, home to towering trees and vibrant wildlife. As you ascend a steep ridge, you’ll reach Sine Camp, where you can visit the breathtaking Enock Falls, just 200 meters from the camp—an ideal spot to capture stunning photographs.
Day 2: Hike to Samalira Camp (3,174m)
Start your day with a challenging ascent through the Bamboo zone to Kalalama Camp (3,134m), where you’ll take a short break. Continue through a moss-covered forest filled with hanging lichens and small lobelia gardens. Afterward, descend along a mossy ridge to reach Samalira Camp, covering approximately 4 km in 5-6 hours.
Day 3: Descend to Base Camp
On your final day, descend 10.8 km from Samalira Camp through the Bamboo zone and dense forests, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys and other primates. The trek takes around 6-7 hours, bringing you back to the base camp where you’ll complete your Rwenzori adventure.
